Stop Feeding Your Kids Junk
By Robert Cwik
Many working mothers nowadays try to cook as little as home as possible, and that's no wonder. After a whole day work, often made longer due to commuting, who has the power to stand in the kitchen and invent healthy, tasty, and attractive meals. Instead, we resort to restaurants, bars, street stands, and fast food bars where most of the food is far from being nutritious, healthy, and least of all economical. Our children become obese not because their genetics drives them this way, not because there is less and less physical education at schools, but because we, parents, deliberately feed them junk food! Yes, we do. Do you expect your kid to buy fruits and vegetables for those few bucks you give them to buy their meal? No way, forget it! They will rush to the nearest McD, KFC or Pizza Hut, and grab a meal which will neither give them enough energy for the rest of the day, nor contribute to their health. At the same time, watching cooking programs has become a kind of a national sport. There are lots of them, and many people watch them on the daily basis, but I know hardly anyone who follows them and uses any recipes no matter how attractive, healthy, tasty and - again - economical those recipes are. It's high time to change this situation. It's high time mothers and fathers alike took care of what they children eat. Make use of the cooking programs you watch on TV, buy a cookbook or two. It's not difficult to find cookbooks with fast, simple, and yet healthy and tasty recipes. What's more there are many dishes you can prepare beforehand to be heated on the next day in the microwave or oven or in the pot they were prepared. Being a working parent and a cooking one is nothing difficult. Just get started, and always bear in mind that you do that for the benefit of your family, and for the healthy future of your children. |
